At Softheon, we are proud to celebrate the incredible women who make a difference every day, both within our company and in the wider science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) community. In honor of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we asked five inspiring women at Softheon to share their proudest accomplishments and the best advice they’ve received as women in STEM. Their insights showcase the resilience, ingenuity, and leadership that drive progress and innovation.
Rachel Corey, Software Engineer
Proudest Accomplishment:
“Earning the trust of my colleagues to the point where I have the freedom to make software design decisions about the product I work on independently.”
Best Advice Received:
“Early in my career, I read Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office by Lois P. Frankel, and it offered some interesting insights. The book helped me recognize how certain learned and socialized behaviors can subtly influence how women are perceived in both everyday life and the workplace. Understanding these dynamics allowed me to refine my communication style and present myself more professionally.”
Beth Bracker, Marketing Operations Manager
Proudest Accomplishment:
“I’m here. I have a career that I’ve made and built by myself for myself, and I am paving the pathway for my daughters and countless girls behind me.”
Best Advice Received:
“Do something that scares you until it no longer scares you.”
Alie Martinez, VP of Operations
Proudest Accomplishment:
“Becoming a Vice President at the age of 30.”
Best Advice Received:
“Navigating a male-dominated workspace or holding an executive role as a young professional can be daunting. However, it’s important to remember that experience isn’t solely measured by years; your credentials and achievements also speak volumes. When imposter syndrome creeps in, remind yourself that you possess the same qualifications as your peers, regardless of age. Your accomplishments at a young age are a testament to your hard work and efficiency. Keep pushing forward with confidence!”
Alexis Davidson, Lead Software Engineer
Proudest Accomplishment:
“My proudest accomplishment in my STEM career has been growing as a leader and building confidence along the way. Transitioning from an individual contributor to an engineering manager challenged me to develop new skills like giving feedback, making strategic decisions, and supporting my team’s growth. Stepping into this role pushed me out of my comfort zone, but over time, I’ve found fulfillment in watching both my team and I thrive.”
Best Advice Received:
“The best advice I’ve received as a woman in STEM is, ‘You don’t have to know everything; you just have to be willing to learn.’ It’s easy to feel pressure to have all the answers, especially in technical discussions, which can feed into imposter syndrome. But this advice shifted my mindset, helping me see that curiosity and continuous learning really are more valuable than perfection. It gave me the confidence to ask questions, take on new challenges, and grow both as an engineer and a leader.”
Vidhatri Subramanyam, Lead Product Manager
Proudest Accomplishment:
“Finding a way to bring all my passions together—curiosity, problem-solving, and giving back. Since childhood, I’ve been curious about how things work and have loved solving puzzles. Now, as a Product Manager in healthcare, I get to apply that same mindset to tackling complex challenges, collaborating across teams, and building solutions that make a real impact. STEM education & career have made that possible!”
Best Advice Received:
“Occupy space. Share your perspective. Always be open to learning from others, but your insights and experiences are just as valuable. Don’t hesitate to contribute, challenge ideas, and shape the conversation.”
