STONY BROOK, N.Y. February 9, 2018 – , a proven leader in cloud-based health insurance exchange integration and remediation, will sponsor the second-annual . New York State Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology will host its second-annual region-wide, interdisciplinary student hackathon, Hack@CEWIT. This hackathon will focus on industry-relevant IoT and security API design, raspberry pi hacks, and learning from industry leaders with hands-on programming… all in the Center's 100,000 sq.ft., next-generation research and education facility — at Stony Brook University.
As strengthening the technology and engineering workforce pipeline is an integral component of Softheon's three-fold mission, Hack@CEWIT will bridge academic brainpower with regional industry priorities, investigating innovative, next-generation solutions while advancing tech literacy and fostering new enterprise development.
Hack@CEWIT is designed to select scenarios that will have a direct, real-world application to their product portfolios. A lab-to-marketplace approach that is largely representative of CEWIT and one that provides a valuable educational resource for our students and regional business community. Softheon is proud to sponsor the opening night reception and give $5,000 in prizes.
Softheon Founder and CEO, Eugene Sayan, said, "The demand for developers and coders has never been higher. The work we do at Softheon has real-world impacts on millions of Americans getting affordable, quality healthcare. I am always in awe of the young talent that shows up at these events, and to have over 200 more entrants than last year’s event is a testament to the quality of our speakers, presenters, engineers, and developers creating an inviting learning experience. We are excited to once again partner with the Hack@CEWIT team to show that Long Island is a thriving technological center, and our students are among the country’s brightest.”
The Softheon team will guide and mentor the Hack@CEWIT attendees on broad topics, including Zero-to-Hero sessions, APIs, and other technical platforms. Topics include:
Dr. Satya Sharma, PH.D., MBA, Executive Director of CEWIT, stated that, "Last year's Hackathon was a very successful event. Not only did the students learn a lot, but in the process, created future entrepreneurs." Dr. Sharma added, "Without Softheon, last year's event would not have happened. The same could be said for this year. I thank Softheon for opening their APIs, so students can create new solutions that will hopefully be mutually beneficial."
Hack@CEWIT is the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT)'s interdisciplinary IoT-focused hackathon bringing students together for a two-day technical challenge over President's Day Weekend.
